The Good News About Men: We are resourceful.
We’re studying The Biggest Obstacle to Authentic Masculinity.
If you’ve ever had a serious setback— we hope you have, because they’re humbling and force you to change… and involuntary change always helps us more than voluntary change—think now: What caused the setback? Most of us rattle off reasons. A partner, a spouse, the weather, the market, lack of money, lack of time, lack of opportunity… the list is endless. And, in fairness, maybe one, some or all the reasons we name did contribute to our setback. However, naming anything outside ourselves lets us off the hook.
So… what’s the trick?
Here’s the trick: Find both the reason for, and the solution to, the setback within yourself without tyrannizing yourself. Here’s an almost flawless question and answer to do that after a setback:
“How could I have been more resourceful?”
That’s the stuff because it unlocks answers. If you say, “I could have been more resourceful by…” your mind starts to work, not shut down.
Here’s a great quote:
“It’s a fool goes looking for logic in the chambers of the human heart.” – Everett in “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
The lesson? Go easy on others; don’t look for what’s not there.
Here’s a clip about resourcefulness.
It’s Everett being resourceful (watch Pete’s face as he realizes just how resourceful Everett has been):
Be bold, be authentic, be masculine… and be resourceful.
